El Paso Child Guidance Center Awarded $50k Thriving Communities grant from Marathon Petroleum

El Paso, Texas July 25, 2022, Marathon Community Investments awarded the El Paso Child Guidance Center a $50,000 Thriving Communities grant to help address the current mental health crisis affecting children and families in the borderland. The number of children reporting suffering from a mental health challenge in 2022 has increased from 25%to 75% due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This $50k grant not only helps boost the Center’s efforts in expanding capacity to help address the need for high quality mental health services, but also ensures clients are provided quality mental health care regardless of their ability to pay. The Center currently provides client centered coordinated mental wellness which is comprised of mental health education, therapy, skill building and psychiatry. These vital programs are vital for children and families to achieve their fullest potential.

The Marathon Community Investments program is centered around strengthening communities and helping make peoples lives better by focusing contributions and partnerships with charitable organizations that reflect the priorities of community stakeholders, align with company core values, and enable Marathon employees to make a positive and measurable impact.  “Marathon Petroleum is honored to support the mission and work of the El Paso Child Guidance Center. The Center plays a vital role in promoting resiliency through its much-needed mental health programs and services,” said Ruben Iguaran of Marathon Petroleum.

“We are humbled and very grateful for the financial support from Marathon. This level of financial support ensures children and families have expedient access to quality mental health care regardless of their ability to pay. Helping children and families reach their fullest potential is the epitome of resiliency.” said Cathy Gaytan, CEO of the El Paso Child Guidance Center.

El Paso, TX – Aliviane Inc. and the El Paso Child Guidance Center (Guidance Center) have entered into a formal partnership to expand the capacity of the two organizations to address the growing mental health and substance use crisis in the region.

With 1 in 5 El Pasoans facing a mental illness and the growing relationship between mental health and substance use, the partnership will allow the two organizations to offer a comprehensive continuum of mental health and substance use care for the residents of the region.

Founded in 1970, Aliviane provides substance use and mental health solutions to thousands of El Pasoans each year through prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery programs, including a residential treatment center for women and children. Established in 1954, the Guidance Center is a recognized leader in trauma informed care, providing high quality mental health care to more than 2,500 children and families each year, with plans to expand services through its renovated facility on Yandell, which broke ground earlier this year.

In the new partnership, the El Paso Child Guidance Center will become an entity of Aliviane, maintaining its name, brand, nonprofit status, and array of services for children and families. Aliviane will provide fiscal and administrative support to further the missions of both organizations. The high quality staff will remain, central to the work of both organizations.

“We approached Aliviane with the opportunity to combine forces because of the trust and collaborative relationship that exists between us,”                            said  Cathy Gaytan, the CEO of the Guidance Center. “We quickly recognized that by coming together we could create an effective, efficient, and                    comprehensive continuum of mental health care for our community. This new level of partnership will not only maximize limited resources, but                      also allow both our entities to expand services in a time of a mental health crisis.”

Aliviane and the Guidance Center have been collaborating for many years.

Ivonne Tapia, CEO of Aliviane said, “We feel truly honored to have one of our most trusted partners join our Aliviane family. Our combined                                  efforts will bring innovative and quality behavioral health services to the region unlike ever before.”

Both organizations will continue their traditional events that bring the community together in support of their missions – including the Guidance Center’s annual Roast set for October 2022 and Aliviane’s annual Gala in September 2022.
