What Sets the Center Apart
The El Paso Child Guidance Center is unique in the El Paso community in many ways.
- The Center is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation. COA is the nation’s leading accrediting body of social service and mental health care organizations. The COA accreditation process involves an in-depth examination of the Center’s compliance with the best practice standards. This includes an evaluation against national financial, administration and clinical standards. Achieving accreditation makes a strong statement to the El Paso community that the Center meets the highest national standards and is delivering the best quality services to the community we serve.
- The Center is the only non-profit agency in El Paso providing therapy and psychiatric services specifically for children and their families. No client is ever turned away from services due to their inability to pay.
- All of the Center’s therapy staff hold a Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling, are licensed practitioners in Texas, and have received specialized training in trauma and working with children. The Center provides training opportunities to our therapists to help keep them educated and informed in the newest evidence based models for treatment. Therapists have a sub-specialty in trauma treatment and many agencies in El Paso refer child abuse/sexual assault cases to the El Paso Child Guidance Center for therapy.
- The Center’s treatment team includes a Medical Director who is board-certified in child and adolescent psychiatry and has dedicated over 30 years of her career to the Child Guidance Center and its efforts in the community. Dr. De Vargas has advanced training in psychotherapy as well as psychopharmacology.
