El Paso Child Guidance Center’s
18th Annual Dinner and Roast

A roast is an event in which a specific individual, the guest of honor, is subjected to good-natured jokes at their expense intended to amuse the event's wider audience. In addition to jokes and insult comedy, the events may also involve genuine praise and tributes. The implication is that the roastee can take the jokes in good humor and not as serious criticism or insult, and it is seen by some as a great honor to be roasted. The individual is surrounded by friends, fans, and well-wishers, who can receive some of the same treatment during the evening.

Each fall, the Center hosts its largest fundraiser - a dinner and roast - at the El Paso Country Club. This event raises critical funds to ensure the Center continues to grow and serve more children. The evening starts at 5:30pm with a cocktail hour while participants learn about the Center via walking through a display and listening to music. Dinner follows, with a program. Program content is facilitated by a Master of Ceremonies and consists of testimonials from Center clients, information about why the Center needs community support, and four friends of the Roastee who provide a memorable evening of honoring the Roastee through personal and funny stories. Who is the Roastee?

The Center’s volunteer Board of Directors identifies a community leader who is dedicated to improving the lives of fellow El Pasoans.  The Roastee’s responsibilities include identifying family and friends to invite, encouraging their personal and business contacts to support the Center and child mental health via donating to the Center, and enjoying the evening.

Mayor of El Paso, Dee Margo and First Lady, Adair Margo will be honored at the El Paso Child Guidance Center’s 18th Annual Dinner and Roast benefiting the Center on Thursday, November 14, 2019.

Dee Margo was elected Mayor in 2017. He has served in the legislature representing EL Paso and House District 78. Has also served as chair of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce and served as President of the El Paso ISD Board Members. Most recently, he was appointed by Gov. Abbott as the new presiding officer for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). First Lady, Adair Margo is an avid ambassador for our region, art, and education. Adair founded the Tom Lea Institute and is President of the FEMAP foundation.  She received the 2018 American Spirit Medallion by the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, which honors people who through integrity, discipline, and initiative, contribute to their communities, state or nation. Most recently, Adair Margo was sworn in as a new member of the National Endowment for the Humanities. El Paso gave The Margo’s roots, motivation, and a passion for public service.
